Field Service / Customer Service Engineer 1/22/97

BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

Under the supervision and direction of the Service Manager, the Field Service/Customer Service Engineer is responsible for installing and maintaining TopoMetrix customer's instruments at the customer's site or at the factory.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

1. Identifies and solves problems relating the operation of TopoMetrix products.

2. Learns and practices the operation of all instruments offered by TopoMetrix.

3. Work in TopoMetrix Service Repair Center to evaluate and/or repair instrument parts returned from customers.

4. Respond to customer phone calls, e-mail and fax communications and conduct in-house and field service procedures.

5. Travels to customer sites to perform field service duties including: addressing customer questions and concerns, installing new systems, troubleshooting and repair old ones.

6. Maintain service stock inventory and assure shipment of inventory items to customers in a timely and cost-effective manner.

7. Contribute to product/project activities by assisting in the generation of technical materials and the preparation of written reports. Writes field service reports and maintains customer service files.

8. Works to complete projects in accordance with schedules. Ensure that schedules are met and respond to situations as circumstances change.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Requires knowledge and skills normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in an engineering or science discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires at least 3 years technical work experience with instrumentation and a demonstrated ability to work well with customers.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions and procedure manuals. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and in small group situations as well as write routine reports and correspondence. Speaking and understanding a second language is not necessary but helpful.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Requires generally recognized engineering skills in electrical and mechanical disciplines, familiarity with personal computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheets, and experience with Microsoft Windows™.

Office and field skills necessary include ability to read circuit schematics, and utilize various software programs.

Ability to travel on a local, state-wide, national and international basis. Travel of up to 75% may be required with overnight travel of 5-10 nights possible.

Must have a valid drivers license from the State of residence and be insurable.

PLACE OF WORK:

The Field Service/Customer Service Engineer is required to operate an office from his/her principle place of residence. The office will be used to store documentation and service inventory, conduct telephone, fax and e-mail communications with customers and the factory.

Receives frequent guidance on technical issues to achieve project goals and objectives. Meets regularly with supervisor to discuss progress on assignments and receive clarification of expectations.

The employee is frequently required to sit and stand, walk and stoop. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception.
