Configuring Outlook |
These directions are outdated with respect to sending mail. Please talk to Oliver. Since the Microsoft Outlook supports POP over SSL, it is really very easy to configure it to connect securely to the New Electron mail server from outside the LAN. It essentially involves simply clicking on a box that tells it to use SSL. Setting it upOpen up the Outlook mail window, and go to "/Tools/Accounts". Choose your "electron" account profile and click on "Properties". You will want to enter "electron.mit.edu" in both the "Outgoing mail" and the "Incoming mail" boxes:
Click on the "Log in Using" button and enter you account name and you (new) account password. Make sure the "My server required authentication" box at the bottom for outgoing mail is NOT clicked. Then go the the "Advanced" tab:
Click on the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" box ONLY under the Incoming mail section, and enter the port as "995" as shown. The outgoing mail does NOT use a secure connection so make sure the box is NOT selected. Click on OK and you are done! |
